This extract from a documentary focusses on recordings of White House meetings and phone calls during the Vietnam war. What is striking is the fact that the leaders charged with making major decisions may not themselves know what is truly going on. In the case of the phone call between US president Lyndon B Johnson and his wife, we see the private insecurity of a politician that the public woul...

This is a well known and humorous example of failure in an attempt to replicate a still video image in a 'real' sense. The blinking and breathing of the actors heightens this, whilst the overflowing coffee shows how even the non-human materials won't remain still either.

This documentary excerpt looks at the Moscow Theatre Siege in 2002, and raises several questions regarding suspension of disbelief (listen to to how one audience member thought it was part of the play), and what happens when the politics of the outside world enter into the theatre space.

Compare this trailer for a B-movie on the life of the Ugandan dictator with Barbet Schroeder's 1974 documentary on the same subject. The latter shows Amin as something of an affable buffoon whilst the former could be said to take the more obvious approach in portraying an 'evil' character. Perhaps Schroeder's more 'human' portrayal is more disturbing as it presents a monstrous character such as...

Extract from Werner Herzog's documentary 'My Best Fiend' that charts his fractious relationship with actor Klaus Kinski. In this scene, Kinski seems rather upset by the standards of catering on the set of Herzog's 'Fitzcarraldo'. A good example of how the 'drama' can continue outside of the narrative of a film itself.

Whats most humorous is that the FOUNDATION of hiphop has been sampling, going back to the late 70s. ITs strange that they got up in arms all those years later after millions and millions of records sold. Great timing, i think not

They were in arms the whole time, it’s not like it took that long for people to get sued. There weren’t any hip hop albums in the 70s, no money was being made so of course nobody cared

@@byHexted You were not there. It took time. The moment records sold in high numbers thats when it became an issue with them. To this day, noones going to bother some underground artist that sells 5 copies of an album, you can loop the beetles all day doing that and noone will come knocking.

Very interesting ideas and approach to performance and art, sort of eliminating, sort of eliminating the scriptwriter, or perhaps assigning that role to the different cast members, they absorb influences, perceptions from the community, outside world and create a narrative and performance that also seems to eliminate the 4th wall, and even representation, making it all with as few "middle man" as possible in order to bring forth a kind of raw realism... well, can't explain well, but worthwhile!

That's amazing. I was also wondering what the Peruvian indians made of all that. I guess they would expect people from an apparently more advanced society than theirs to be enlightened and unperturbed; perhaps as many people perceive extraterrestrials. They must have had a hell of a shock! Offering to kill him is a hilarious reaction - he must've been like a ridiculous out-of-control spoiled brat to them.

Not sure if you are a fan of his or emilio's but they have a very touching movie out called "The Way" and it is very sweet and genuine and it has a book counterpoint that is a memoir they wrote about their memories over the last 50 years. You said this shows his devestation no holds barred--that does it (the book) in written format) talking about anger and sadness and worries to do with this set.

@TheCharacterActor Speaking of the WWII subject, it's kind of ironic that Herr Kinski once said in his Jesus speech that "Anyone who starts war or participates in it in anyway, is already dead" & he himself was a soldier/conscript in the Wehrmacht.

Later that evening, after Kinski's rage, the Indians involved in this scene/footage offered Herzog to kill Kinski for him. Thank fuck voor Kinsky, he and Werner were friends and Herzog declined the Indians offer. Kinski's life was on a very thin line here, which he didn't realise at that time. The Indians must of thought a demon was amongst them, a bringer of bad luck..

I remember watching this documentary right after I watched Apocalypse Now. I was going through depression at the time and when I saw the film and the documentary, especially this part where Sheen just shows his devastation with no holds barred, it really struck a chord with me because it was just so raw. I completely empathized with him and it shocked me to see a person's inner darkness manifested so potently on camera.
